PSEG Nuclear Awarded Industry Accolade

NEWARK, N.J. – July 9, 2020 – PSEG Nuclear is the recipient of the 2020 Framatome Top Innovative Practice Award, presented as part of the annual Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) Top Innovative Practice (TIP) award program, in recognition of the organization’s commitments to safety, ingenuity and process improvements.

The distinction was bestowed to PSEG Nuclear’s Hope Creek Generating Station, a high-output single unit boiling water reactor, for its novel approach to performing critically important nuclear vessel interior inspections during planned maintenance and refueling outages.

By partnering with the nuclear reactor specialists Framatome, Hope Creek was able to successfully leverage a custom remote tooling system to more efficiently execute these essential visual assessments. Integrating the optimized methodology yielded significant outage scope reductions, eliminated projected project work, minimized workforce impacts, permitted the reallocation of key resources, delivered substantial cost-savings and enhanced the overall quality of the assessment data.

This achievement marks consecutive NEI TIP showings for PSEG Nuclear. Hope Creek Generating Station earned 2019 honors for a similar application of the same autonomous inspection equipment.

“We are constantly evaluating our operational strategies in an attempt to identify the most effective solutions,” says PSEG Nuclear President and Chief Nuclear Officer Eric Carr, “while at the same time reliably producing carbonless power for millions of households and businesses. I’m very proud that our PSEG Nuclear team has been recognized as industry leaders on innovation.”

Official NEI TIP ceremonies were conducted virtually, convening industry heads of state from topflight clean energy outfits throughout the country in order to celebrate progressive and cutting-edge nuclear technology advancements.
