PSE&G Receives Inaugural 2022 EV Charging Hero Award from EVgo
Utility recognized as a trailblazer in EV charging based on commitment to achieving widespread fast charger deployments
(NEWARK, N.J. – January 23, 2023) — Public Service Electric and Gas Company, New Jersey’s largest utility with 2.3 million electric customers and 1.9 million gas customers, received the inaugural 2022 Connect the Watts™ National EV Charging Hero Award – from EVgo Inc. (EVgo) as part of their National EV Charging recognition program.
PSE&G was recognized for its commitment to developing EV charging infrastructure and the acceleration of fast charger deployment. PSE&G received this industry honor via a virtual award ceremony on Thursday, January 19. The Connect the Watts™ National EV Charging Recognition Program celebrates leaders in the EV charging ecosystem for their work and achievements in driving the electrification of transportation.
“This recognition from EVgo showcases PSE&G’s efforts to advance transportation electrification in New Jersey,” said Karen Reif, vice president of Renewables and Energy Solutions at PSE&G. “We are extremely proud of the work our electric transportation team has carried out that has helped in receiving this distinct honor.”

PSE&G has engaged with EVgo on their “Connect the Watts” initiative and focused on bringing the EV charging infrastructure community together to identify best practices and accelerate fast charger deployment. Through this engagement, PSE&G helped to inform EVgo’s Best Practices for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (NEVI) that outlines best practices for state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and their partners when administering the recently announced $5 billion NEVI program. To date, six EVgo large EV projects have been completed, and nine additional projects are in progress within PSE&G’s territory.

EVgo, the nation’s largest public fast charging network for electric vehicles (EVs), introduced the Connect the Watts™ National EV Charging Recognition Program in 2022. The program recognizes ‘EV Charging Heroes’ across the different sectors that work alongside EV charging companies to develop charging infrastructure, including site hosts, utilities, local and state governments, engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors.
