PSE&G is Prepared for New Jersey Hurricane Season
Utility continues to modernize its preparedness efforts to keep communities safe and the grid reliable
(Newark, NJ – June 12, 2025) PSE&G is prepared for hurricane season in New Jersey, which is underway now through Nov. 30, and wants customers and neighbors to be, too. We continue to endeavor to safeguard our customers’ utility service from the damaging impact of extreme weather by strengthening and upgrading our infrastructure. These efforts are part of our aim to deliver safe, reliable service even when severe weather strikes.
“Storms can happen at any time, and being prepared is one of the most important ways we can protect ourselves and our communities,” said Paul Toscarelli, vice president of electric operations at PSE&G. “Our teams work year-round to strengthen the grid and improve restoration times, and we encourage our customers to take time to prepare their homes and families as well.”
Over the past several years, we have upgraded many miles of wire and new circuits have been installed to further add reliability for our customers. These improvements and upgrades allow us to minimize the customer impact and restore customers quickly, especially for critical facilities like hospitals, water treatment plants needed for health and safety services for our community.

HOW YOU CAN PREPARE
PSE&G customers can prepare for this hurricane season by:
- Creating an emergency kit including a battery-powered radio, alarm clock, flashlights, batteries, bottled water and nonperishable food. For more information, see the American Red Cross recommendations.
- Preparing for power outages by charging phones, tablets, power backups and other mobile devices. If you have a gas-powered backup generator, learn to use it safely.
- Registering life-sustaining equipment needs with PSE&G. If you or a loved one relies on electricity to operate life-sustaining equipment, it is critical to inform PSE&G by completing the Critical Care Application in advance of storms.
- Preparing for wind or flooding by securing outside objects like garbage cans and patio furniture and turning off power to natural gas appliances and supply valves. For more flood safety tips visit www.pseg.com/flood.
- Stay connected with PSE&G by signing up for MyAlerts to receive email or text alerts. Report an outage by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) or texting "OUT" to 4PSEG (47734).
- If you have a gas-powered generator, always operate your generator according to the directions in the owner's manual. Never use a generator or other fuel-powered machines inside. Generators can produce 100 times more carbon monoxide (CO) than a car. Hazardous CO fumes are odorless and can quickly overwhelm you in minutes if a generator is used indoors, even with doors and windows open. This includes outbuildings like sheds or garages.
