Storm Update — Sunday, Feb. 22, 1:00 PM
PSE&G is reporting the following preliminary figures as of 1:00 p.m. today:
- As of 1:00 p.m., PSE&G has had few customers affected by the storm.
- Approximately 3,000 PSE&G electric field personnel have mobilized to support storm restoration efforts, including line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel. We have also requested additional assistance for hundreds of mutual aid workers to reinforce restoration efforts.
- Throughout much of our service territory, the forecast calls for blizzard-like conditions with heavy wet snow with up to two inches per hour of snowfall and strong wind gusts later Sunday into Monday. Heavy snow can bring down tree limbs, trees and overhead wires, contributing to potential outages.
- Weather conditions, including high winds and snowy roads, are expected to make restoration and travel difficult as it may be challenging to safely move about the state. Additionally, there are safety restrictions for the use of aerial equipment such as bucket trucks during high winds. Given these conditions, we anticipate this to be a multi-day restoration event.
- Storm conditions can also lengthen the backyard restoration process as it becomes challenging to move people, equipment and resources into place for the necessary repairs. - Our overall restoration process is simple: To restore power safely to the greatest number of customers in the shortest amount of time with prioritization of critical customers such as hospitals, schools, and customers with life-sustaining medical equipment. Once we determine that it is safe to start service restoration, our crews work around-the-clock to restore your power. - As safety allows, crews are actively working to restore any customers out. Customers can find their estimated time of restoration on the PSE&G Outage map.
- Please visit the outage map to view the current number of outages. All jobs will be restored safely and as quickly as possible.
- Crews continue to work in difficult conditions and will continue to work safely and as quickly as possible, in 16-hour shifts, until all outages are restored.
- PSE&G recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship, especially in frigid temperatures, and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.
Customer Safety:
- Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay at least 30 feet away from downed wires, and don’t go near the pole or anything touching the wire. Immediately contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), via our mobile app or on our website to report downed wires and dial 911 if an immediate hazard exists.
- Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
- Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
- If you smell a gas odor, immediately exit the building, move at least 350 feet away, call 911.
- When it snows, keep pipes, vents, and meters on the outside of your home clear of snow – otherwise, you may inadvertently allow carbon monoxide to build up in your home. Also, clear chimneys and vents of snow and ice accumulation for other gas appliances.
