(NEWARK, N.J. – July 7, 2026) – Working around-the-clock, PSE&G is nearing completion of one of the largest storm restoration efforts in its history. A multiday heatwave was followed by three consecutive days of high winds and severely damaging storms that hit nearly every part of New Jersey over the July 4th holiday weekend. Crews continue working around the clock to safely complete repairs in the remaining hard-hit locations, where widespread damage has required extensive restoration of the electric system. We are doing this as quickly and safely as conditions allow.

Restoration work continues, but we can report the following from noon on July 1 to 8:00 a.m. today:

  • More than 380,000 customers restored
  • Fewer than 3,000 customers remain without power
  • More than 650 trees impacted that blocked access to damaged equipment

More than 170 crews from across PSE&G, our contractors and mutual aid partners from out of state were working to restore power yesterday. In addition to the utility crews, more than 180 vegetation management crews were deployed to clear areas with downed trees and branches.

Why you may not see a utility crew on your street

Damaged circuits that feed your town may not always be visible from your home or even your neighborhood. Repairs are frequently needed on damaged transmission and distribution lines, substations and circuits upstream from you in order to restore the power flow to you and your neighborhood.

We appreciate our customers’ understanding

"Our crews have made tremendous progress under extraordinarily difficult conditions, but we know that statistic means little to the customers who are still waiting for their lights to come back on," said Paul Toscarelli, vice president, Electric Operations, PSE&G. "For those remaining customers, we understand this has been a long and frustrating week. Please know that every remaining outage matters to us, and we will continue working safely, around the clock, until every customer who can be restored has power back."

PSE&G appreciates the understanding of our customers and communities as we work through our final restoration efforts.

We appreciate our municipal and state partners

"We're also deeply grateful to the municipal leaders, police officers, firefighters, county officials and emergency management teams who partnered with us throughout this event," Toscarelli said. "Their coordination helped us prioritize public safety, clear roads, support restoration work and keep communities informed every step of the way."

While the vast majority of customers have been restored, the remaining outages are among the most complex. Many require rebuilding sections of the electric system, replacing poles and equipment, or making repairs in locations with difficult access due to fallen trees and extensive storm damage.

As with every major storm restoration, crews first restored power to critical facilities and repaired major transmission and distribution lines before moving to individual service connections.

PSE&G appreciates the extraordinary efforts of its employees, contractors and mutual assistance partners who have worked continuously throughout this restoration effort, many spending the past week away from their own families to serve New Jersey communities.
