(Newark, N.J.) Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, has been recognized as a Top 10 Utility in the U.S. for overall customer value and reliability by the Wired Group, which produces the Customer Value Ranking™.

“PSE&G’s consistently high ranking in national surveys is the result of our strong commitment to providing safe, reliable and clean energy that meets the growing needs of our customers,” said John Latka, PSE&G senior vice president for electric and gas operations. “We’re investing billions in infrastructure upgrades and keeping customers well informed to help them understand the many benefits of these investments.”

The Wired Group uses publicly available data and a proprietary algorithm to calculate rankings that measure capital and operations spending, reliability and customer satisfaction. The rankings “measure customer value by comparing the benefits customers receive from utilities to the funds utilities spend, and for which customers must pay,” according to the Wired Group.

Under its Energy Strong program, PSE&G has been elevating switching and substations out of the reach of floodwaters so customers won’t lose power during severe weather. Other investments include: infusing the network with advanced microprocessors and other “smarts” to more quickly identify trouble spots and expedite repairs, and fortifying equipment that serves more than 250 hospitals, waste treatment plants and other critical customers so it can serve the people of their communities when the next big storm hits.

PSE&G’s Gas System Modernization Program has been accelerating replacement of aging cast-iron and unprotected steel gas pipes to reduce leaking methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The utility is awaiting approval from state regulators to continue the program for another five years.
